However, he tends to become easily frustrated by those who don’t. -Gifted: His musical prowess is simply unmatched by anybody in the academy, even the music teachers. His intelligence is above-average (as he modestly puts it) as well, which brings him both positive and negative attention, as much as he hates it. -Frugality: Although it seems strange for someone as showy as Roderich (though that is more due to Noblesse Oblige), he despises wasting anything. He always patches up his clothes until they are worn out and always keep leftovers when he cooks. -Upstanding: Once again through his Noblesse Oblige, Roderich is a highly responsible student that follows the rules as law in an almost Kantian way. He also tends to scold students who don’t, to their dismay. -Mature: Roderich is very stoic and difficult to anger (however there are some things that will make him utterly break his austere appearance). He permanently keeps a calm façade when in public and will usually talk back softly if somebody attempts to bother him. -Rational: Unsurprising to his introverted nature, the Austrian is very rational, most of the time preferring to think before acting or needing to justify things in his heads through reasoning. NEGATIVE: -Absent-minded: He tends to be lost in thought or very concentrated most of the time. He tends to lose focus in class when he is not interested, yet can quickly form a near-unbreakable bubble around himself when focused on something he is interested in. -Loner: While he may seem very distant if not outright antisocial, he simply prefers to be by himself and his thoughts or hobbies. He will open up completely only to a select few and will never approach anybody without a proper reason. -Aloofness/Shyness: His social skills are quite pathetic even though he hides it too well with his stoic façade. He has little experience in socialising and feels awkward when talking about love or anything alike. -Protective: Surprisingly, he tends to become very protective over his personal belongings and especially the handful of close friends he has. It is a rare case of emotions overriding his reason and it tends to be too efficient in doing so. -Harsh: While it is out of good-will and honesty, he is very harsh towards his peers. He his highly critical of anything he finds wrong and is often unforgiving of repeated offenses. LIKES: -Music: It is his passion and interest since he was a child, especially classical music. -Cooking and Baking: He is an incredible baker and an okay cook. His recipe base mostly comes from his home country, Austria, but also expands further into central European cuisine. -Sweets: Unsurprisingly, he can never resist to sweets; especially chocolate. -Tea and Coffee: He has no true preference over one or the other. He loves tea and its elegance, but loves Coffee because of spending his childhood in Vienna. -Flowers and Gardening: He may never admit it to anymore, but he loves flowers and taking care of them. The Edelweiß is his favourite. -Reading: A quiet pastime for quiet people like him. -Animals: He can’t resist those accursed fuzzy little creatures. He plans to smuggle a cat into his dorm room. -History: One of his few strong non-music-related subjects. He loves the history of his home country and the countries around it. DISLIKES: - - -Sports: Physical activities are a bore to him and finds them utterly useless. -Childishness: He cannot deal well with those with unruly behaviours, as much as he tries to hide it. -Irrational behaviour: Same as above. He hates idiots as much as he tries to tolerate them. -Physical fighting: He always prefers to use his wits to avoid physical confrontations. -Loud noises: When it is not music (or that terrible modern junk) then it makes his ears bleed (not literally). OTHER INFORMATION HISTORY: Roderich Edelstein was born in Vienna, Austria. His father is from an aristocratic family from the old glory days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire while his mother is from a middle-class family. The wealth of his family meant that he had very favourable upbringing in his youth. Early in his life, he showed signs of being a child prodigy, quickly picking up many musical instruments and understanding music itself quite early. To this day, his favourite instruments are the piano, the violin and the harpsichord. However, his parents were strict and wanted the little Austrian to achieve his full potential, making him work incredibly hard during his childhood. While it did ensure that his skills were unmatched, he grew very resentful of his parents and ended up being desperate for freedom. However, he never really acted drastically on this desperation, unwilling to do something he might regret. His early teenage years were quite unremarkable: His musical skills and intelligence quickly being noticed. Unsurprisingly, this led to a lot of negative attention and ended up being bullied quite often by his peers due to his skills and his solitary nature. His parents took notice of this problem, but the school he was enrolled in refused to do anything, believing that bullying could never happen in their prestigious institution. In the end, they could not find a proper solution to the problem, but figured that they should reduce their control over Roderich for the time being. Eventually, his skills and intelligence (and wealth) caught the attention of Headmaster Vargas who was seeking potential recruits in Austria. He found Roderich’s situation to be deplorable thanks to his potential. The Austrian was quick to accept the proposition and his parents relented when they realised this could be the only way to maximise their son’s potential. Roderich found himself eternally grateful to the Headmaster, believing he had saved him from a messy situation. However, this meant that he was a relatively late newcomer to the Academy, which could potentially simply lead to a repeat of his previous situation.
